Balta takes Softline to next level, adds many other new collections

-- Home Textiles Today, 9/16/2009 10:30:00 AM

At the New York Market – Balta U.S. has created the next generation of its Softline collection of rugs, which are made of a specially treated olefin yarn for extra softness.

The latest version is the Softline Frisé, and these new rugs employ the same treated olefin yarns from the original collection but combined them with textured and heathered frisé yarns to give a more dimensional look to the patterns and a thicker density to the weight and feel.

Drop stitching is used on most if not all the patterns, which include botanical, contemporary, transitional and even lodge looks.

These pieces are all stain resistant.

The suggested retail price is $89 to $99 for a 5-by-8.

Also new from Balta is the DaVinci collection of hand-carved “Frieze” rugs, which are power-loomed and carved by hand at the company’s own facilties in Turkey.

Radiance is also being introduced. This grouping uses heat-set yarns that have been manipulated during the extrusion process to make them shinier. As the company explained, its Radiance rug pieces “catch the light” in any room setting, giving the rugs a special sheen.

New to its outdoor line is the soft braided Grace, a collection of sea grass-like rugs that are made of synthetic fibers that have been twisted for a textured sisal look.

In a chenille look is the new flat-woven machine-made woven Sofia collection, which features clean, crisp patterns in subdued palettes and soft modern design elements.
