NEW YORK —
After almost 40 years as president of the company founded by his father, George Matouk Sr. has become chairman of John Matouk & Co., relinquishing his presidential duties to his son, George Matouk Jr., who has become ceo as well.
Both Matouks stressed that Matouk, Sr. is in not retiring from the bedding, bath and table linen manufacturer. Matouk Jr. said that his father will handle the financial side of the business, while he will run the day-to-day operations and the larger strategies.
Formerly a vp, Matouk Jr. has been with the company for close to five years. In fall of 1998 he moved to Providence, RI, to manage the company's New Bedford, MA, plant. He will remain in that area, and Matouk Sr. will remain based out of New York.
