Chris Baker stepping into ceo role at Hollander

Jeff Hollander becoming executive chairman

-- Home Textiles Today, 4/21/2009 2:02:00 PM

Boca Raton, Fla. – Basic bedding manufacturer Hollander Home Fashions today announced the appointment of industry veteran Chris Baker to ceo, effective May 4. Current ceo Jeff Hollander will now serve as executive chairman.

“This announcement comes on the heels of a long, thorough ceo search,” said Hollander. “I am certain Hollander Home Fashions’ customers, partners and employees will be drawn to Chris’ openness, enthusiasm, and business acumen.  I am pleased to have another strong executive at the helm of Hollander, and while no one can replace my father, I do not believe that I could find a more suitable person than Chris Baker to partner with and to help lead our company.”

Hollander’s father, Leo Hollander, passed away in 2005. As the second generation to lead the company, he grew Hollander into a global manufacturer.

Baker most recently was chief operating officer of WestPoint Home, where he focused on building the international supply chain and strategic supplier relationships. Previously, held several positions at Springs Industries, including president of the basic bedding division, senior vp of sales for the Walmart/Sam’s account and executive vp and president of the bath division.

Baker began his career in textiles -- after several years at Arthur Andersen & Company -- as an internal audit manager at Pillowtex Corporation. There, he climbed through the ranks to become president of operations and a member of the board of directors and executive committee. His career also included The Company Store, where he was vp of operations.

“The Hollander family and its company have been known as leaders and innovators in the industry for over 50 years,” said Baker. “I look forward to working with its highly talented staff and to help drive and continue the strong momentum that exists at Hollander Home Fashions.”

Hollander manufactures bed pillows, mattress pads and down comforters from its 14 factories in the United States, Canada and China, under a number of brands including Laura Ashley and Live Comfortably.
