Home Depot vet to retire

ATLANTA —
Larry Mercer, executive vp and 23-year veteran of The Home Depot, will be retiring later this year. He will remain with the company as an advisor to the chairman and ceo until February 2004.
Mercer is responsible for store operations of the company's more than 1,400 retail locations, which include the Home Depot stores, Expo Design Centers and the company's subsidiaries.
The retailer has named Troy Rice to the position of senior vp, operations. He will assume the responsibilities currently handled by Mercer. Rice joined the company in 1990 and most recently served the company as division president, Northwest.
Eric Peterson, who was most recently the company's regional vp for the South Atlantic region, will replace Rice.
