Garnet Hill lifts the veil on spring collection

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 10/28/2002 12:00:00 AM

Garnet Hill pulled back the veil on the designs for its spring 2003 catalog last week during the "A Day in the Lifestyle" preview at a loft space in the East Village here.

Colorful prints on percale sheeting dominated across a variety of looks — florals, geometrics, children's and whimsical motifs such as black-and-white clip art prints and sheet music prints. Quilts also layer into most bedding groups. Garnet Hill also introduced a new range of brights to the palette of its Fiesta Percale all-cotton, solid-color sheeting program. In addition, it leveraged a program done last year with Area to create Blocks Percale, a design featuring large, softly hued squares bordered in white.

"I think one trend we continue to see growing is the modern look," said Dennis Lyons, senior buyer, home division. "There's also a strong market here for contemporary and traditional. And whimsy plays a role."

New introductions coming in the spring catalog range across Garnet Hill's price grid, which has not shifted, Lyons told HTT.

Debuting in spring at the top end is a Hotel collection of Florentine Jacquard percale by Nancy Koltes. Made in Italy, sheets are 400-count. Duvet cover and shams are 500-count in white with jac trim in three shades: ice, opal, and shell.

In new businesses, Garnet Hill will unveil its first full tabletop collection in the spring catalog. Blue and white dinnerware borrows its pattern from Lacemaker's Percale bedding and will sell at $165 for a 16-piece set. Blue glassware in a similar pattern will sell at $38 to $40 for a set of four. Flatware will sell at $60 for a five-piece set, or four sets for $198, Lyons said.
