Fingerhut puts employees on paid leave
Fingerhut Cos. has put some of its employees on paid leave with full benefits while parent company Federated looks for a buyer. On Jan. 16, Federated announced its intent to shut down the Fingerhut division unless it found a buyer. Fingerhut spokeperson Ben Saukko said several potential buyers have emerged since then and have been referred to Federated's investment banker, Credit Suisse First Boston. In addition, last week a significant number of employees in the division's core catalog business, including those on paid leave, were given the 60-day notice required under the Federal Worker Adjustment Retaining and Notification Act that their jobs could end, he said.
