Sell! Sell! Sell!

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/7/2002 12:00:00 AM

The new year was barely 48 hours old when after-holiday sales catalogs from Federated Department Stores' two key nameplates dropped into the mailboxes of consumers.

The macys.com book was more aggressively clearance-oriented in tone. Price breaks in home textiles ranged up to 50 percent and included Ralph Lauren Home, Tommy Hilfiger, Royal Sateen Candlelights and a fair assortment of Federated's house brand Charter Club bed and bath.

In contrast, Bloomingdale's By Mail offered a blend of new product along with sale items. Sale bedding trended decidedly toward the luxurious, and sale bath included towels from Calvin Klein and Charisma. Leading off the new, non-sale introductions: Donna Karan Home's Opulence bedding, floral lace sheets and wool/angora/nylon double-faced throw.
