May Dept. Stores promotes three

St. Louis — The May Department Stores Co. has announced three promotions.
Jay Levitt has assumed the position of president of May Merchandising Company from Judith Hofer, who remains ceo and to whom Levitt reports. Levitt was previously president and ceo of Robinsons-May.
In turn, Craig Israel has been appointed president and ceo of Robinsons-May from his position of president and ceo of Kaufmann's.
From his position of senior vp and gmm of May Merchandising, Andrew Pickman now becomes president and ceo of Kaufmann's. His replacement has not been named.
"May is very fortunate to have executives with merchandising talent, management skills, broad retail experience, and track records of success to assume these important positions in our organization," said Gene Kahn, chairman and ceo.
