Solid results for same-store sales

NEW YORK — Maintaining their recent upward momentum, same-store retail sales jumped up 5.1 percent during the first week of March, once again beating expectations for both mass merchants and department stores, The Redbook Average reported.
Sales at department stores continued to rebound from last year's depressed levels, rising by 3.7 percent and beating a planned 3.6 percent increase. Mass merchants as well exceeded expectations, pushing sales up by 6 percent, ahead of a planned 5.8 percent.
