Sugar Valley, Ga. – Mohawk Industries plans to permanently shut down its filament carpet yarn manufacturing plant in Dahlonega, Ga., by June, laying off 366 workers employed at the facility.
Mohawk notified the state labor department on April 7 of its plans to close the site, located at 215 Pine Tree Way, according to the Georgia Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) public listing.
A Mohawk Industries spokesperson could not be reached by HTT for further comment on the plant closure. The Georgia Department of Labor said it will provide assistance to those affected employees losing their jobs.
The yarn produced at the site was used by the company to produce wall-to-wall broadloom carpet. A company source confirmed to HTT that this fiber is not used by Mohawk Home in manufacturing any area, accent or bath rugs or door mats.
Earlier this year, on Feb. 25, Mohawk Industries also released to the state labor department its plans to shut down two similar Georgia sites, one in Armuchee and the other in Dalton.
