Mohawk Home signs license with designer and industry veteran Sarah Nicol

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/27/2002 1:17:00 PM

Sugar Valley, GA — Mohawk Home has forged a licensing partnership with designer Sarah Nicol to create proprietary collections for retailers as well as some open lines, according to Merle Johnson, vp, marketing.

Launching in February during the NY mini-market, the program will include designs for all of Mohawk Home's product categories — area rugs, bath rugs, decorative pillows, throws, blankets, table lines, wall hangings and others. Some designs will be used for collections of coordinated products in various categories, and other looks will be designed for free-standing products. All of Nicol's collections will target Mohawk Home's mass market and mid-tier retail customers.

"We'll give [Nicol] a specific design direction that we see is a trend or we'll give her a look that a specific retailer has asked us for and she'll customer make it for that retailer — that's her expertise," Johnson said.

Nicol is based in Fairfax, VA, where she works with a staff of six designers. Within the industry, she also licenses designs for quilts by Peking Handicraft.

Mohawk Home and Nicol signed a three-year pact with an option to renew.
