Big Lots plans new DC in OK

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/7/2002 12:00:00 AM

Broadline closeout retailer Big Lots broke ground last week at the site of its new distribution center in Durant, OK. Located on 118 acres, the 1.2 million square foot DC has an anticipated completion date of late 2003 and will be the fifth DC for Big Lots.

The facility will service 214 stores in 14 states throughout the south-central United States and is expected to create up to 500 new jobs.

"This facility presents a tremendous opportunity to more strongly service our existing store base while continuing our aggressive growth strategy," said Al Bell, vice chairman. "It reflects the great partnership we have with the people of Durant and their strong community leadership."

Durant was selected as the site for the $65 million facility this past August. "We investigated three states and over 58 sites for this project," Bell said. "Durant clearly provided the best economic and geographic efficiencies as well as a strongly dedicated work force. We're enthusiastic to become a member of the community."
