Pendleton opens new retail outlet

PORTLAND, OR —
Building on its four-year-old and rapidly growing home franchise, Pendleton Woolen Mills, a century-old woolen producer, has opened its first-ever Pendleton Home Store in the historic Pearl District here.
The 3,000 square-foot home store, on the ground floor of the company's headquarters, puts on display the full scope of Pendleton Home products, ranging from the company's well-known Native American blankets to bedding, leather sofas and chairs, beds and tables, tabletop, accessories, gifts and outerwear, all embodying the Pendleton outdoors spirit.
The new store is the second Pendleton retail outlet in this downtown area, one of the nation's few remaining metro centers that can support a thriving, upscale retail enclave. The original Portland Pendleton store, about half a mile away, showcases the broad Pendleton apparel line, including traditional men's sportswear looks, and women's career apparel.
The new home store puts the spotlight on rugged, homespun Pacific Northwest looks in bedding, furniture and accessories, including over-stuffed upholstered leather chairs that have backs upholstered with bold, colorful Native American motifs adapted from historic blanket patterns. Other furniture looks include dining room tables and dining chairs backed in Pendleton's striking woolen fabrics and upholstered benches hewn of logs and branches.
A full range of bedding products is built around the company's traditional woolen blankets in Native American motifs and includes coordinating decorative pillows, shams, duvets, window panels and fabrics for home decorators.
"The home furnishings business for Pendleton is a natural extension of our long-established blanket business," said Mort Bishop III, the latest in a long line of Bishop family members to manage one of the nation's oldest woolen producers. The bedding, furniture and accessories, he said, further the company's unique take on Native American and crafts looks "and our company's perspective on Pacific Northwest style."
The new store will also function as a kind of design laboratory, allowing Pendleton to test new home furnishings products developed by the design department, which is housed upstairs in the headquarters building, said Bob Christnacht, a former department store retailer who now heads up Pendleton's Home and Blanket division.
The new Pendleton Home store had a soft opening on July 26 and officially threw open its doors with a grand opening on Sept. 5.
