TAPPAN, NY —
Table linens legend Audrey Friedman has parted ways with the company that owns her name and brand — Fallani and Cohn, which in January changed its name to Audrey/Fallani and Cohn.
Replacing Friedman is Leslie Brooks, who assumed the title director of design on May 5, her start date. Brooks formerly worked for New York-based Arley Corp. as its director of design, bedding division.
Friedman, who is currently vacationing, told HTT via telephone that she will continue working as an independent consultant for design and product development for several other home textiles suppliers as well as other product vendors outside the industry.
"I'm not ready to stop yet," said Friedman, who is based in Dallas and New York City. "I enjoy every minute of my work, and I'm enjoying the diversity of working for various, different companies."
Ana Werbel, national sales manager, told Home Textiles Today that aside from designing table linens Brooks has been assigned to create a new product category — kitchen textiles, of which half will be standalone and the other half directly coordinate with table linens. A launch of 25 kitchen textiles collections — made of cotton, cotton blends, heat transfer prints, embroideries and other constructions and styles — is slated for September at the New York Home Textiles Market.
Aside from the "Audrey" brand, Audrey/Fallani and Cohn also produces a second house brand titled "Fallani and Cohn" as well as three licensed collections with Royal Doulton, Waverly and Outta Hand — all five of which service department and specialty stores. The new kitchen textiles will include coordinates to designs for all these brands.
Audrey Friedman was an independent table linens designer and vendor for 27 years when investment company VKO Inc. bought her company in January 2001. Then last year in June, long-time industry player Fallani and Cohn bought the Audrey Table Linens division from VKO Inc. and hired Friedman as director of design and product development.
