Calvin Klein Unveils Studio Collection

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 9/28/2009 12:00:00 AM

A new bedding program — Studio — has been introduced by Calvin Klein Home, designed as a bridge below its higher priced Collection and the lower priced White Label.

The company, capitalizing on the popularity of its decorative pillows that are part of the bed ensembles, has launched an independent pillow line of 17 styles ranging from $89 to $119.

Overall, each of the new groups reflects "a punched-up color palette," said Rudy Schmatz, chairman.

The new group, at $199 for the queen duvet, is matched to Split Stitch sheeting, a 300-count combed cotton percale with crisp, little pleats at the hem in nine colors at $49.99 for the queen sheet.

A companion bed also called Split Stitch features rows of little pleats, evenly spaced on the duvet in four colors that are different from the sheet palette of nine colors.

Shimmer Flower was inspired by graphic floral artwork and is printed on combed cotton, while Random Seams features color blocking in two colors, inspired by an antique Japanese textile.

The new collection has companion pieces — Echo quilt in three colors; Nepal throw, a lightweight Himalayan wool; and Oslo throw, a cotton knit with small squares as a design.

The new decorative pillow collection uses a variety of luxurious embellishments and fabrics. Among them are floral embroideries, shimmery palettes, metallic bands, stitched paper ribbon, and wool felt that is knotted and stitched on black canvas.

Four new beds join the Studio collection, priced at $249, "which has been roaringly strong after it was repriced," said Schmatz. Seagrass, an engineered print on combed cotton, features delicately painted leaves that grow up the bed. Seagrass is matched to Thatch sheeting, a tiny geometric pattern on combed cotton.

Lace Flower is an abstract lace motif in white and plum printed on a platinum sateen, while Neutral Double Weave mixes neutral shades of beige and nude. The fourth is Blue Flower, printed flowers printed on a textured percale ground.

White Label offers four new patterns: Cadiz, a combed cotton print with tossed flowers with accents of coral, blush and slate; Florina, an engineered floral bordered by two solid bands of petal on clay; Manoa, gradations of stripes; and Rhone, a scattered floral on combed cotton.
