New importer opening U.S. to Plauener lace

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/2/2008 12:36:00 PM

Atlanta – Messe Frankfurt veteran Elke Abate has launched a new business as the sole importer to the United States of Modespitze Plauen fine German lace linens.

“The Plauener Lace is very well known in Europe and Japan, but not in the USA,” said Abate, who retired from the Messe Frankfurt trade fair organization in late January.

Modespitze Plauen, founded 125 years ago, produces a wide range of products, but specializes in table cloths and short curtains, producing both standard sizes and custom orders, said Abate. Techniques include macramé, Gulpure lace, tulle and georgette embroidery as well as embroidered fabrics.

“All lace products use the latest technology and are finished by hand,” said Abate.

Her new import business, Modern German Lace, recently made its trade show debut at the Philadelphia Gift Show. She can be reached at http://moderngermanlace.com.
