Kohl’s taking LEED on green stores

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 11/7/2007 12:50:00 PM

Menomonee Falls, Wis. – Promotional department store chain Kohl’s is pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) status for more than 80 stores.

In its LEED certification, the U.S. Green Building Council uses various benchmarks for the design, construction and operation of buildings, including site planning, water management, energy use, material use, air quality and innovation in the design process.

The 929-store chain also has begun implementation of solar energy in California and Wisconsin and is in the approval process in five other states.

“Kohl’s is committed to being environmentally responsible which was first evidenced through our extensive solar rollout and green power purchases and is now being further extended by the use of green construction methods and LEED certification,” said Ken Bonning, evp of logistics for Kohl’s.
