Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 2/5/2001 12:00:00 AM

NEW YORK -Macy's Home, The Great Indoors and Home Depot were among the winners of the 16th annual Retailer of the Year Awards announced by the New York Home Textiles Show and the Home Fashion Products Association last week.

Retailers are recognized for their achievement and commitment to the home textiles industry in four categories, while an Outstanding Retailer of the Year Award honors a significant overall contribution to home textile merchandising.

The 2001 awards will be presented at Windows on the World during the Spring New York Home Textiles Market Week. The 2001 Retailer of the Year Award winners are:

  • Outstanding Retailer of the Year: Macy's West for Macy's Home. For the innovative design and layout of the new home store (Costa Mesa, CA) as a prototype for home furnishings retailing. The concept presents merchandise as customers perceive their homes-one room at a time.

Robert Mettler, president and coo, Macy's West, will be accepting the award.

  • Catalog presentation: The Company Store. For creativity, excellence and sophistication in catalog presentation. Anita Iodice, president, will be accepting the award.

  • Store Design & Display: Between the Sheets. For distinction in retail design and display of home fashion products. Paul Marx, owner, will be accepting the award.

  • Best Trained Sales Staff: Home Depot. For standout retail staff training and an unprecedented level of customer service among warehouse-style retailers. Kerrie Flanagan, vp, operations, will be accepting the award.

  • In-Store Shopping Experience: The Great Indoors. For an exceptional and revolutionary approach to home furnishings retailing: the most comprehensive one-stop shopping experience in the industry. Robert Rodgers, president, will be accepting the award.

"It is our honor to award this exceptional group of retailers this year for their contributions to the home textiles industry," said Penny Sikalis, program co-chair and vp for George Little Management. "The winners are true industry leaders and position home textiles at the forefront of retailing."

The 2001 Retailer of the Year awards will be presented on Sunday, April 1, 2001, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $300 per person ($250 per person for HFPA members and New York Home Textiles Show exhibitors).

Corporate table packages are available-Platinum at $3,500 and Gold at $3,000. A portion of the event's proceeds will be donated to Furnish a Future, a program of the Partnership for the Homeless.
