Orlando — Wal-Mart believes that opening price points will be an important element during the 2003 holiday season, and that's "what we see in the basket now," said Jay Fitzsimmons, svp, finance and treasurer.
"We're looking at opening price point to take a bigger percentage of total sales," Fitzsimmons told attendees at the Lehman Brothers' Retail Field Trip here yesterday.
Fitzsimmons added that Target has become more competitive on pricing and more aggressive in the consumables business, but said that Wal-Mart is determined to remain the price leader.
