Bloomingdale’s to open outlet stores

Orlick to oversee division

-- Home Textiles Today, 1/21/2010 7:57:00 AM

Cincinnati – Macy’s Inc. will launch Bloomingdale’s Outlet stores in four locations this summer and is bringing back industry veteran Arnie Orlick to develop and expand the concept stores.

Bloomingdale’s Outlets will be about 25,000 square feet. The first will open in the Bergen Town Center, Paramus, NJ; Dolphin Mall, Miami; Potomac Mills, Woodbridge, Va.; and Sawgrass Mills, Sunrise, Fla.

“The customer experience in these stores will reflect the Bloomingdale’s brand with a strong value message,” said Michael Gould, Bloomingdale’s chairman and ceo.

Bloomingdale’s Outlet stores will offer a range of apparel and accessories, including women’s ready-to-wear, men’s, children’s, women’s shoes, fashion accessories, jewelry, handbags and intimate apparel.

Orlick, a long-time executive at Macy’s forerunner Federated Department Stores, will be senior vp for outlet stores.

He began at Federated in 1969 as an executive trainee at the Abraham & Straus division, going on to become a senior merchandising executive at Robinson’s Los Angeles, a division of the former May Department Stores. He joined Bloomingdale’s in New York in 1992 as executive vp for home, cosmetics and restaurant operations.

Orlick later became Bloomingdale’s executive vp and director of stores. In 1997, he was named president (and later became chairman) of Federated’s Rich’s/Lazarus/Goldsmith’s division in Atlanta. He was chairman and ceo of Fortunoff from 2006 to 2008. Most recently, Orlick has taught retailing at the Fashion Institute of Technology and has been a consultant to the industry.
