Nicole Miller hits home

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/5/2001 12:00:00 AM

NEW YORK -Move over, fashionistas. Another boutique designer is heading into the home market.

The Nicole Miller brand will make its home debut this week with the launch of two dishware designs at Fishs Eddy, the New York-based, four-store purveyor of insouciantly designed "sturdyware."

The inaugural patterns-"I Do!'' dishes for wedding and "Baby, baby!'' dishware-were developed jointly by Nicole Miller and Fishs Eddy, according to Nicole Miller director of licensing, Shari Grossman. It will be carried exclusively in Fishs Eddy stores but will also be available by special order through Nicole Miller's 21 boutique locations.

"We did dishware several years ago, but the licensee at the time wasn't good for us," Grossman said. The company's current criteria for licensees: "a little different, a little fun, with a sense of humor. We want to create a wave."

Nicole Miller is also looking to hit "a reasonable price point," she said. Side plates in the bridal line retail for $18 each; a boxed set of four side plates and a serving platter retails for $100.

The designer company is now developing dishware keying off its popular "retro foods" apparel pattern.

The future direction is under wraps, she said. However, "we are definitely looking at a bigger picture."
