Smith Capel, 39, died suddenly in India

RALEIGH, NC —

J. Smith Capel Jr., 39, passed away while on a business trip in India earlier this month.

He was director of imports and overseas business for Capel Inc. and had served in that position since 1985. He was a member of the Young Presidents Organization and served on the Board of The Land Trust of Central North Carolina. He was a member of the Order of the Cross and Chalice, a business honor society at North Carolina State University.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Warren Capel, and four children, Anna, Duke, Frances, and Olivia; his father, Jesse Smith Capel, mother, Julianne Boone Capel; and three sisters, Mary Clara Capel, Julianne Capel Hoell, and Kea Capel Meacham.
