Family Dollar Names Kelly President, COO

Family Dollar Stores has promoted R. James Kelly to the position of president and coo. The company also announced a search for a new cfo; Kelly will continue to serve as cfo until the position is filled.

Kelly joined the 6,100-store mass merchandiser as vice-chairman, cfo and chief administrative officer in January 1997.

“This new organizational structure will enable me to focus more on directing our strategic agenda, including the development of our most important asset — our people,” said Family Dollar chairman and ceo Howard Levine.
