IMEX founder passes away

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 11/13/2001 12:00:00 AM

Charlotte, NC — Michael Jeffrey, founder of IMEX Discovery, now known as IMEX Vinyl Packaging, died here on Nov. 8. He was 65.

Jeffrey got his start in the industry in 1970, hired to start a vinyl packaging division of I. Sharma. Only a few years later, he left to start his own company. He is credited with helping to pioneer some of the creative aspects of what is now standard packaging, such as colored bags, printed bags and insert pockets.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and eight grandchildren as well as his mother and brother. His son Steve is president of IMEX, based here, and his daughter Catherine is also with the company.
