Cuddledown Works with Oeko-Tex to Make Home Fashions Healthier

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/8/2007 12:00:00 AM

Cuddledown, the multi-channel retailer of luxury down products, will market down comforters, bedding, and other home fashions that are certified by Oeko-Tex to ensure that they are free from harmful levels of dangerous chemicals.

Cuddledown recently introduced a line of mattress and pillow protectors that are Oeko-Tex certified. The Anti Bed-Bug Mattress Protector and Pillow Protector are made with all-natural wool infused with natural botanical extracts including lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, and chrysanthemum.

The protectors do not simply repel bed bugs but have been proven in lab tests to actually kill them, according to Cuddledown. The protectors are also effective against dust mites. The fiber treatment will eliminate bed bugs for up to five years and dust mites for up to ten.

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification guarantees that textiles products do not contain unsafe levels of more than 100 substances that could be hazardous for humans.

The International Oeko-Tex Association, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, was founded in 1992 by the Austrian Textile Research Institute and the German Hohenstein Research Institutes. Currently, its membership includes 17 independent textile research and testing institutes with offices in over 30 countries. Oeko-Tex tests products to ensure they are environmentally friendly and tested for potentially harmful substances.

"The Oeko-Tex label is an assurance to our customers that Cuddledown products are completely safe to use in their homes, hotels, and inns and are manufactured to the highest ethical standards," says Chris Bradley, Cuddledown's ceo.

Manfred Wentz, the U. S. director of Oeko-Tex, says, "European manufacturers and retailers focused on eco-friendly and human-friendly textiles in the last decade with great success and it is promising to see the same commitment and passion emerging now in the U. S."
