Minneapolis —
Target Corp. last week said it was opening 23 new units throughout the country — from Florida to California to Hawaii.
Of these, four are general merchandise stores, 17 are general merchandise with expanded grocery offerings, and two are full-grocery SuperTarget stores.
The new units fall into the 70 to 75 units the discount department store chain said it would open this year. In August 2008, Target told analysts and investors it was scaling back its new-store count for 2009 and 2010 in response to the slowed economy.
The 127,000-square-foot general merchandise stores are in: Kona, Hawaii; Warren, Mich.; Bronx Terminal, NY; and Cheltenham, Pa.
The general merchandise units enhanced with an expanded food format include: one in California; one in Connecticut; two in Florida; one in Iowa; one in Louisiana; one in Nevada; one in New Hampshire; one in New York; four in Pennsylvania; one in Texas; one in Virginia; one in West Virginia; and one in Wisconsin. The units run 135,000 square feet and include basic fresh produce, fresh meat and bakery goods.
The 186,000-square-foot SuperTargets are in Murrieta North, California, and Wylie, Texas.
Target Corp.'s total store count as of the end of July, once these units have all opened, will reach 1,719 units in 49 states.
We would love your feedback!
