ShopKo Finishing Store Remodels

ShopKo Stores recently completed the remodeling of seven stores.
The stores bring to 10 the number of ShopKo stores remodeled in 2004 at a total cost of approximately $22 million. The remodeled stores are located in: Redding, Calif.; Salem, Ore.; St. Cloud, Minn.; Marquette, Mich.; Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; Appleton, Wis.; and Madison, Wis.
“Our goal is to establish a less clinical, more residential environment through the creative use of updated color and materials,” said Sam Duncan, ShopKo president and CEO.
Store changes include: a new interior and exterior color scheme, reallocated space in home decor and housewares areas including enhanced presentations and assortments in furniture and lamps, a redesign of the home entertainment area, a new KitchenAid shop and an expanded appliance section, additional convenience merchandise items such as newspapers and refrigerated items, and new automated checkout lanes and self-checkouts at some locations.
