Consolidated makes 'Big' name change

COLUMBUS, OH -Consolidated Stores Corp. is changing its store names nationally to Big Lots, in an effort to build a national brand.

The corporate name will also change to Big Lots, pending approval by the company's shareholders.

"One common brand name for the stores and the company will make our business easier to understand and market to our customers and investors," said Michael Potter, chairman and ceo.

The retailer operates 1,291 stores, of which 923 currently operate under the Big Lots name. The remaining stores will be converted over a three-year period.

Big Lots is the company's most recognizable brand name, Potter said. "This change gives us the ability to leverage a single brand with a single focus. We are the category leader in broadline closeout retailing and will take the lead in growing the category to realize its full potential.

"Our brand name will allow us to use television advertising more effectively across the country."
