Shaw Living, Shaw Floors Marry Rugs and Broadloom in “Modern Classics”

For the first collaboration between Shaw Industries' sister divisions, Shaw Living and Shaw Floors, the company is launching a new Modern Classics collection that marries broadloom with area rugs.

“It's a true collaboration between broadloom and area rugs — and it serves the upscale consumer niche by offering an abundant selection of on-trend styles,” explained Kathy Young, director of creative services.

Modern Classics comprises broadloom and coordinating woven area rugs. It offers two constructions — 1.5 million points of density per square meter and 500,000 points, the latter featuring a softer sweep. Both depict pattern with much clarity while offering durability, softness and easy maintenance, the company noted. The designs are woven of Marquesa Solution Dyed olefin, a fade- and stain-resistant synthetic fiber.

Emily Morrow, Shaw's director of color, style and design, said Modern Classics' designs fuse ancient woven textile designs with contemporary classic looks, spanning traditional florals to trellises to fashion-inspired animal prints, which are interpreted in an equally broad palette from dramatic rich colors to light neutrals. The collection is divvied into three design groups: Contemporary, Traditional and Transitional.

“For the interiors filled with cherished heirlooms, Modern Classics have the perfect companions in traditional Persian designs,” said Morrow. “And for the lovers of modern art and architecture, the collection offers sophisticated geometrics.”

Shaw offers a wear warranty for stairs and halls for Modern Classics. The marketing program includes in-store displays.

All Modern Classics wall-to-wall carpet styles are available in rug sizes. The broadloom width is 13 feet 2 inches. Modern Classics rugs offer more than 400 coordinating skus, and all designs are offered in six sizes, ranging from 2-by-3 up through 9-by-12, as well as select styles offered in rounds, squares, and custom length runners in 26-inch and 31-inch widths. All Modern Classics pieces are domestically made by Shaw and include a service guarantee — orders ship within three weeks.
