Lowe's names hot colors

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/6/2003 12:00:00 AM

Bold, tangy hues from the '60s and vivid, Art Deco-inspired shades from the Roaring Twenties are expected to make a resurgence throughout the coming year, according to Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse.

"Color in home decor will become simpler and cleaner, yet more intense and vibrant in 2003," says Melissa Birdsong, director of trend forecasting and design for Lowe's. "You should see neutrals, such as creamy almonds and glossy whites becoming brighter, and darker colors, like Chinese red, deep purple and cobalt blue, growing richer."

Color trends for 2003 are being stimulated by a variety of modern and historic influences.

Feng shui, with its simplicity and earthiness, is still generating popularity for such colors as celadon and sky blue. However, a strong nod to the past — namely toward the glamorous 1920s and eye-popping 1960s — is influencing this year's palettes, Birdsong said.
