Stein Mart appoints Mettler to board

Jacksonville, Fla. – Mid-level off-price department store chain Stein Mart Inc. has appointed retail industry veteran Robert Mettler to the company's board of directors.

Mettler, who recently retired, was formerly chairman and ceo of the Macy's West division of Macy's Inc. He originally joined the department store in 2000 as president.

Prior to that, Mettler spent nearly 40 years in progressive retail leadership positions, including president of merchandising full line stores for Sears, Roebuck and Co., and president and ceo of the now-defunct Robinson's Department Stores.

Aside from Stein Mart, Mettler also serves on the board of directors of Jones Apparel Group as well as the board of directors of National Jewish Health and the board of trustees of the University of Virginia College Foundation.
