U.S. chooses DecoContract

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 6/28/2004 12:00:00 AM

The U.S. Department of Commerce will not sponsor a special pavilion at Decosit, held in Brussels, Belgium, from Sept. 11 to 14.

Instead, said Larry Brill, director of market expansion for the Office of Textiles and Apparel, the department will focus its efforts on DecoContract, an exhibition held at the same time and in the same place as Decosit that focuses on the contract market.

The companies that previously exhibited at Decosit in the U.S. Pavilion will be welcomed by Textirama, the sponsors of Decosit and DecoContract, Brill said. The space will be exactly as it has been before, but without the American designation. Commerce also will have a business information stand in the same place as it had been for the use of all American companies showing at Decosit.

The reason for pulling back "is that the number of companies that would be acceptable to Textirama has remained constant for the last few years, and our efforts are to have companies that are newly involved in export," Brill explained.

For DecoContract, Commerce will have a pavilion of 2,454 square feet with Absecon Mills, Fabricut, Edward B. DeLeo, Lan-Tex Corp. and Loomcraft already signed up.

The United States also will have a mock-up of a hotel suite sleeping room and dining/conference room created for the Cinema Sindbad Sheraton in Baghdad. The mock-up is 645 square feet and will enable 30 participants to handle furnishings of all kinds.
