New York — After almost 40 years as president of the company founded by his father, George Matouk Sr. has become chairman of John Matouk & Co., relinquishing his presidential duties to his son, George Matouk, Jr. who has become ceo as well.
"It was time to do it," said Matouk, Sr. "George [Jr.] has proven his ability and dedication to the firm."
Both Matouks stressed that Matouk Sr. is not retiring and will continue to work at the bedding, bath and table linen manufacturer. Matouk Jr. said that his father will handle the financial side of the business, while he will run the day-to-day operations and the larger strategies.
"The company is changing and growing, and we're entering new markets," Matouk Jr. said. "The two of us thought I had more energy to lead the company forward."
Formerly a vp, Matouk Jr. has been with the company for close to five years. In the fall of 1998 he moved to Providence, RI, to manage the company's New Bedford, MA, plant. He will remain in that area, and Matouk Sr. will remain based out of New York.
