New York —
An emphasis on texture, more focus on hand-detailing techniques like cut work, smocking and pin tucks, and block prints are key themes at the DKNY division of Donna Karan Home.
Expanding its solid color sheet program, the company has introduced a 525 cotton sateen line in nine colors in the Donna Karan Collection. Retail for the queen is $135.
In Play, part of DKNY, the solid colors in the accessory items will be expanded next year into sheets in a range of four colors: chino, khaki, blue and green.
In the Pure introductions, Pure Indigo on a cotton/linen blend features a willow motif on the duvet cover with hand embroidery and accented with a dip-dyed pillow sham among the accessories. Pleating, puckering and stitching enhance the other pillows.
Pure Wildflower features a hand-blocked print coverlet with a duvet mixing leaf and wildlife motifs. Scatter stitches, puckers and pleats are the detailings on the pillows and shams.
In Pure Folk, the duvet cover has smocked detailing working with eyelet and ripple stitching as embellishments on the bed accessories.
Urban Bohemia, one of the DKNY Life styles, is a garden floral motif on a linen/cotton duvet cover. Tiny pompoms highlight the hem of the sheets in leaf and tango. French knots, scalloped edges and embroidery are important accents.
Striped Bloom, another DKNY Life introduction, features silk flowers appliqued to the duvet cover that mixes a stripe in vertical, horizontal and diagonal applications. Sheets with pintucked hems, a hand-stitched quilt and ruffles and sequins are important embellishments.
Three patterns, each in blue and green, are being added to the Play collection. Play Bath features peach and blue as new colors, each in two patterns as well as a large beach towel and reversible shower curtain.
Donna Karan Collection reflects influences from the designer's apparel collection. Lotus, a solid color using different shades of greens, features a woven silk duvet cover in a dappled color effect. The sheets of the 525-count cotton sateen have a pleated hem, and the pillows are woven silk in varied greens with embroideries and textured effects.
Eclipse, inspired by a vintage jacket, uses a linen/cotton blend for the duvet cover with applique and stitching effects. The quilt is stitched and the sheets have stitching details.
Slanted Stripe uses tiny linen stripe strips pieced and sewn onto a nylon mesh for the duvet. The quilt has contrasting stitching and the sheets use a pleated hem or a striped hem.
Collection also features decorative pillows in an expanded color range: fuchsia, aluminum, pearl, lotus, apricot, khaki and chambray as well as two new towels, one deeply sculptured, the other with a banded bead design.
Donna Karan Home, now with 250 doors in the United States, has recently opened in Australia at Meyer, said Patsy Pollack, president. In this country, “We're holding to our current distribution and business is good.” Home also has been added to the Donna Karan Collection store in Manhasset, N.Y., “and we're looking at London,” Pollack added.
Price points remain the same throughout, she said, with Play duvets at $200 for the queen/king; $330 for DKNY queen duvets and $400 and $500 for Collection.
