Weave to market silk from China

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 2/18/2002 12:00:00 AM

Weave Corp. will begin marketing 100 percent silk fabrics made in China.

The first collection will be ready this month and consists of 14 styles in multi-color, multi-purpose weights, according to Roger Berkley, president of Weave. All together there are about 18 skus. The silk program is being marketed under the name of Glasgall Silk Co., a new Weave division.

While many companies are looking overseas for sourcing, "we only are doing this for fabrics we can't produce here — silks," Berkley explained.

The designs, colors and constructions are developed here and produced in China under the supervision of Weave's quality control and manufacturing groups. Berkley plans an ongoing production of new designs in the all-silk range.

Prices range from just under $20 to about $26 per yard.
