Cost Plus enters Santa Barbara

Cost Plus World Market opened its first store in the Santa Barbara area last week, its 133rd store nationwide. With 16,000 square feet of selling space, the store on State Street offers product from 50 countries, including home decor.

Family Dollar opens 39 new stores

Deep discount store retailer Family Dollar opened 39 new stores during the four-week period ending May 5, for a total of 3,993 stores nationwide. The new locations are: eight in Texas; six in New York; three each in Arizona and Virginia; two each in Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio; and one each in Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

Domain launches Internet campaign

In the May edition of its monthly e-mail newsletter, sent to its preferred customers, Domain Home Fashions is including promotional offers for lobsters, wine, and pots and pans — items the retailer does not carry in any of its 22 stores. The reason is to make the newsletter a must-read every month. "What better way than to offer them special savings on compatible 'lifestyle' products in addition to Domain home furnishings?" said ceo Judy George.
