Pacific Designs ramps up creative touch

Pacific Designs, a supplier of fashion bedding, decorative pillows, throws, window treatments and table runners, unveiled 18 bed patterns in the $199 to $249 queen comforter price range at last month's market, eight of which were shown on beds.

All bed patterns also feature window and throws. In addition to providing a department store line, the company has a specialty store line for independent retailers.

"We try to give our beds a decorator's look by putting in touches and coordinating fabrics for an overall custom feeling," described Suzy Kain, head designer at Pacific Designs. "What we've tried to do is have a multitude of looks that cater to a variety of customers. We'd like to have something for a lot of different people with different taste levels, addressing a casual lifestyle to a more opulent sophisticated lifestyle," she added.

Kain explained that Pacific Designs believes it can react more quickly to customers' needs or requests than larger firms because of its more intimate size and design-intensive atmosphere. "We are always reinventing ourselves and developing new designs and products at more moderate price points," she said.

Patterns highlighted at market were Tiger Lily, Westwood, Papyrus, Biscayne, Bellington, Hokaido, Boulay, and Mallory. Tiger Lily featured a lush tropical look with a hibiscus and animal motif on a jacquard outlined in chenille in a cinnabar colorway. The bed featured a throw with multi animal stripes and suede with a brushed fringe, while its skirt offered a straw-colored textured basketweave look. Coco microsuede accents can be found throughout, like on the pieced shams with cinnabar flange.

Westwood offered a more contemporary landscape stripe in desert earth tones with a pick stitch and makes it looked pieced as well as hand-quilted. Coco-colored microsuede accents appear on the skirt, flanges and trims of Euros, shams and decs. Papyrus had a cream ground with an antique gold lily motif that is trimmed in antique gold cording. A mini-pinstripe woven coordinate in black and antique gold appeared on the bed skirt, and is used to frame the Euros and shams.
