American Textile Co. expands bed pillow plant

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/18/2008 1:02:00 PM

Pittsburgh -- Basic bedding manufacturer American Textile Company (ATC) has buttressed its growth in the bed pillow business by recently expanding the company’s Salt Lake City production and shipping facility.

The building opened in July 2007 with 55,000 square feet and has now increased its occupancy to 115,000 square feet. The expansion also means more jobs, with the ATC Salt Lake initial workforce growing by 200% in just six months — from 25 to 70 employees, according to Randy Cowder, ATC general manager in Salt Lake City.

ATC only recently opened a plant in Dallas also in support of the sleep pillow category. Earlier in 2007 ATC expanded its Duquesne, Pa. headquarters and opened a newer, larger showroom at 295 Fifth Ave. in New York.

“The growth of our presence and capabilities in Salt Lake means we can better serve our customers’ needs throughout the United States,” said Jack Ouellette, president and ceo of ATC. “We are committed to increasing our already strong presence in the bedding industry.”
