Bacova gets cooking with kitchen rugs

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 10/29/2001 12:00:00 AM

Identifying the kitchen as a high-traffic zone, Bacova Guild Ltd. this past market launched its largest ever offering of kitchen rugs, with 175 skus of new introductions.

"We've doubled our offerings," said Charlie Bowers, president. "We decided to do a bigger kitchen story because the kitchen utilizes more rugs than any other part of the home. There's lots of turnover there."

Bacova's original kitchen rug offering included three lines — classic berbers, featuring natural, sisal, pebble, stone and ecru substrates; comfort back anti-fatigue rugs; and cushioned rugs.

Additions to the kitchen line for the most recent market — Bacova Guild's first New York Home Textiles market event since it came under the new Ronile Inc. ownership — include 100 percent nylon inkjet high-low loop check; cut pile plush nylon inkjet rugs; a collection of rugs in several shapes like fruits, vegetables, kitchen accessories and flowers made of cut pile plush nylon inkjet; 10 new inkjet designs; and eight new screen printed collections in three designs — Americana, Island Romance and Back to Nature.

Also enhancing the expanded kitchen rug line is the addition of product stemming from three licenses — Warren Kimble, Pfaltzgraff and Donna Gorman. Bacova already produces accent and scatter rugs and floor mats for all three.

Price points range from $7.99 to $19.99. Bowers did not want to specify what levels of retail Bacova is targeting with its kitchen rug offerings, except to say, "We have a comprehensive distribution strategy."
