Kmart promotes Austin

Karen Austin has been promoted to senior vp, chief information officer, at Kmart, the company has announced. Previously vp, applications development, Austin will report to Julian Day, president and coo. Since joining the company in 1984, Austin has held various positions of increasing responsibility. She fills a position that has been vacant since August 2001.

Home Depot's Martineau resigns

The Home Depot has announced the departure of Lynn Martineau, president, new growth businesses, who has left to spend more time with family and to pursue other interests.

Martineau joined The Home Depot in 1979 and recently was responsible for the company's portfolio of acquired businesses, including Georgia Lighting, APEX, Your "other" Warehouse and Maintenance Warehouse. He also oversaw the professional contractor business and the launch of the Home Depot supply business.

The company plans to name a successor shortly.
