WILKESBORO, NC -The home improvement retailer Lowe's plans to blanket the Boston area with 25 locations over the next five years, as well as beef up penetration in other Northeastern locations.

In the midst of the most aggressive expansion in its 55-year history, the company plans to invest approximately $1.3 billion in the Northeast over the next five years, $430 million of it in the Boston area. This year, Lowe's plans to add 115 to 125 stores to its more than 650 store base.

The first store will open Feb. 24 in Danvers, MA. A Brockton, MA, store will open this summer and others in Worcester and North Attleboro are being built.

Lowe's currently has two locations in Massachusetts.

In addition, Lowe's will debut in the New York metro area with the opening of a North Bergen, NJ, store this spring, as will its first Rhode Island store, in Woonsocket.
