Springs to Close Georgia Plant

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/20/2004 12:00:00 AM

Due to waning product demand, Springs Industries will be shutting down its tabletop accent rug plant here where it produces Regal branded rugs, effective Feb. 1.

Ted Matthews, vice president, corporate communications, said the company will still make some of the Regal product line, but because demand has lowered, Springs has opted to relocate production to its other two rug facilities, which are located in Calhoun, Ga., and Nashville, Tenn.

“(The shutting down of the Ellijay facility) allows for us to consolidate our rug production, lower our costs and operate more efficiently,” Matthews added.

Currently, the Calhoun plant mainly produces basic bath rugs and the Nashville site serves predominantly as a manufacturing and distribution center for other accent rug lines.
