WPS adds to legal department to shepherd trademarks

West Point, GA — WestPoint Stevens has added Leon Porter to its law department as associate legal counsel, a new role that will focus on trademarks, patents, international sourcing and licensing.

Porter most recently was a partner in the law firm of Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, Winston-Salem, NC. From 1991 to 1998, he was chief counsel for branded apparel at The Sara Lee Corp., where he was responsible for the Hanes, L'eggs, Champion, Playtex and Bali businesses. He also serves as a member of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Council of the North Carolina Bar Association.

He will report to vp and general counsel Clay Humphries and will be based at the company's corporate headquarters here.
