Georgia Tufters

-- Home Textiles Today, 2/26/2001 12:00:00 AM

Calhoun, GA

Only 5 percent of Georgia Tufters' business is imported, but it's a small margin the company holds on to for the sake of keeping its customers happy.

"We tap into our importing business when the need arises, when a customer specially requests product," said David Record, vp, national sales manager.

That kind of product includes gun-tufted, hand-carved, shaped rugs from India-mainly, rugs from Georgia Tufters' children's line of rugs.

"They come in teddy bears, hearts, moons, shapes that go well in a kid's room," Record said.

Record said that while Georgia Tufters' importing business is nominal, "it works for us."

As for the 95 percent of the company's business in domestic manufacturing, Georgia Tufters intends to "run at full capacity," Record said, as it always has.
