Wal-Mart expands online-to-local-store deliveries

Bentonville,Ark.– With testing of its Site to Store program complete, Wal-Mart Stores said today it is rolling out the service nationwide, permitting the free shipment of online shoppers’ orders to local stores for pickup.
In effect expanding the merchandise assortments of every location, the program is especially prevalent in the electronics, baby, home, sports and toys departments, the $345 billion retailer said. Deliveries are made within seven to 10 business days. The Sunbelt was the first region to activate Site to Store with about 750 locations. Wal-Mart plans to complete the rollout to more than 3,300 stores by late summer.
Mike Smith, Walmart.com’s director of store integration, said, “A key advantage of Wal-Mart’s online channel is the ability to offer a much larger assortment of products through our virtual shelf space.”
