New York – The tourist-jammed stretch of Fifth Avenue from Central Park to 34th Street will gain another shopping icon this November with the planned opening of the Tommy Hilfiger world flagship store.
With 22,000 square feet over four floors at 781 Fifth (between 53rd and 54th Streets) – the location occupied by Fortunoff since the 1970s – the store will showcase the entire range of Hilfiger lifestyle products, including home, the company said.
Revman International is the bed and bath licensee for the Tommy Hilfiger brand.
Tommy Hilfiger Group operates 545 stores worldwide.
Fred Gehring, ceo, said, “We have established an important retail presence throughout the world in cities such as London, Paris, Milan, Moscow, Shanghai, and Sao Paolo. Yet we were missing a real global anchor in New York City, the home of our brand, for quite some time. We are incredibly excited that following a long search, we have secured the perfect location for this very important initiative.”
Tommy Hilfiger said the new store will be part of “our efforts to further redefine and elevate the brand’s positioning in the U.S. market, a process which is well underway since our privatization in 2006.”
He added that, while the company will accelerate new store openings, it will strike a “balance” with “the nationwide presence at wholesale via our strategic alliance with Macy’s,” a reference to the exclusive merchandising deal the retailer signed last October for Tommy Hilfiger men’s and women’s apparel.
