Has anyone told Roebuck?

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/20/2003 5:28:00 PM

New York — Continuing to turn around its retail business, Sears will open a pilot store this fall that "gets us back into the convenience business" in categories its exited, Alan Lacy, chairman and ceo, said yesterday.

In a freestanding full-line, off-mall format, the new larger store will offer more transactional items, such as consumer electronics, that will put Sears "on the path to better store growth," he said.

"We're just too mall-dependent," Lacy explained during a presentation at the Merrill Lynch Global Retailing Leaders Conference.
