Sunbury Launches Decorative Fabric Collection

With a heritage that ties back to ancient fabrics for many purposes — but always natural — Sunbury has introduced two new decorative fabric collections using only natural fibers that are the next step beyond its Quest program using sustainable production processes.

The collections – Artisan and Caravan – are designed for the interior design community with natural fibers replicating hand-dyed and hand-woven fabrics of the past, explained Mark Grigalunas, senior vp, style and design.

The basic fibers used throughout are baby wool, silk noil from Japan, and alpaca from Peru and Egypt. The color palette is “tight, mostly neutrals with a touch of color. The impact is from the blending of color, design, hand and content,” he said.

The collection made its debut at a gallery-like presentation last week in New York for the decorative jobber and interior designer communities. Currently, there are 30 patterns, but when the official showings begin July 20 there will be 200 patterns. Many more are on the drawingboard for future offerings.

The two collections include 13 new yarns, each in 12 to 15 colors, Grigalunas explained, with effects that range from painted cotton chenille warps to faded woven techniques.

The impact, he said, “is that these are truly art pieces.”

Prices range from $25 to $60, with eight- to 10-week deliveries.
