Mazarakis Joins Linon to Relaunch its Rug Business

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 2/9/2009 12:00:00 AM

Steve Mazarakis, longtime president and ceo of area rug company Hellenic Rug Imports as well as its founder in 1988, has left to join Linon Home Décor Products, where he is charged with energizing its new rug division.

“We feel this is an exciting category for Linon to re-enter,” said Jim Ziozis, Linon's president. “My father, John Ziozis, the founder of Linon, started in the flokati business 40 years ago, so this is really getting us back into the rug business. We feel that Linon reentering the rug business will offer buyers an outstanding home décor selection of furniture, wall décor and rugs.”

Linon is a supplier of ready-to-assemble furniture and wall décor. Its customer base includes specialty stores, internet retailers and major chains, Mazarakis told HTT.

He added that Linon's new soft floor covering assortment will comprise “a full line of quality and affordable area rugs” and is set to launch during the Las Vegas World Market, Feb. 9-13.

At its showroom in the World Market Center in space C-1232, Linon's rug division will debut a new licensed collection with shelter magazine Southern Living Home — which formerly partnered with Hellenic for its rug program. This branded collection comprises traditional and transitional designs and a new group of indoor/outdoor rugs.

Also set to show in Vegas is Linon's open stock line that encompasses flokati styles — which were signature to Hellenic — and traditional, transitional and contemporary hand-tufted wool rugs, a shag leather collection, a wool sisal program, poly-acrylic tufted rugs in more than 150 designs, indoor/outdoor styles, and opening price-point machine-made rugs, among others.

Aside from its headquarters here, the company also operates satellite offices in Dongguan, China as well as a warehouse in Newark, N.J., and showrooms in High Point, Las Vegas and Southern China.

Linon offers its retail customers both container and warehouse direct-ship programs for its rugs.
