Color and class coexist at High Point show

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 5/3/2004 12:00:00 AM

Fresh, bright, and colorful on one hand. Elegant, dressy, and soft on the other.

These were the main fashion statements emerging from the upholstered furniture shown at the International Home Furnishings Market here last week.

There was a decided lightness of mood across the upholstered furniture segment. Plain fabrics resurfaced with twills, failles, velvets and sleek wovens used in counterpoint with jacquards, prints and novelty dobbies.

Red was a special fashion favorite in the color derby. Warm blues, moving to aqua watery tones, also were significant.

The purple family was well represented from pale tones to aubergine. A popular neutral was a rich chocolate brown.

Prints made a significant statement ranging from retro '50s looks to fresh florals.
